AZRAQ — The Municipality of Azraq announced plans to launch a mobile car-licensing station as of Tuesday.

The mobile station comes as part of the “We Come to You” initiative by the Central Traffic Department (CTD), which also introduced a mobile inspection station last November, a statement from the Municipality of Azraq said.

“We hope that providing services such as re-licensing and inspection through mobile stations will limit violations that are backed up by the ‘we had no time to go to the station’ excuses given by most drivers,” said Yazan Shaweesh, a CTD media officer.

The mobile station will provide “all car and driver’s licence services issued at fixed stations, including more complex ones such as transfers of ownership”, the municipality said in its statement.

The reason for choosing Azraq to launch the first mobile licensing station, Shaweesh said, is that it is still in its “experimental phase”.

“We want to see if people are going to make use of this service. Moreover, the inspection stations launched last year were released onto the streets of the capital, as most services are, so this is a nice change,” he added.

As of Tuesday, the mobile station is set to operate in Azraq from 8am to 2pm, and will soon be used in other cities as well.

Earlier this month, CTD Deputy Director Ziad Bakir said in a statement that he “hopes the stations are the first of many new technological additions to the department”.
