AMMAN — Awqaf Minister Mohammed Khalaileh on Tuesday received Brunei Ambassador Mahadi Maidin and stressed the "deep and historic" relations between the two countries.

Khalaileh highlighted the ministry's role in caring for mosques and spreading the true messages of Islam, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He said that the ministry also supervises mosques and Islamic awqaf (endowments) in Jerusalem as part of the Hashemite Custodianship that supervises Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city.

Maidin stressed the "deep" relations between the two countries, praising the level of attention and care that the Kingdom provides to Brunei students at Jordanian universities.

The ambassador also reiterated the significance of the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem and its role in protecting these sites against attempts to change their legal status quo.
