Awareness campaign on groundwater concludes in Ajloun

AMMAN — The Ministry of Water and Irrigation on Wednesday concluded its awareness campaign to protect groundwater resources in Ajloun.
The campaign falls within a technical cooperation programme for managing groundwater resources in Jordan, implemented in cooperation with the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) and funded by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
It aims to promote water conservation, raise awareness of the state of groundwater and protect it from pollution, theft and depletion.
Ajloun Governor Qublan Al Sharif, expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the Water Authority for finding solutions to challenges facing the governorate, which has suffered from water scarcity, especially during the summer months.
Highlighting the Water Authority's efforts to address water challenges, the Media Assistant Omar Salameh, said that the “Kofranja desalination plant project” will begin operating in May at a cost of JD16.5 million, providing 350 cubic metres of water and reducing water shortage in the region.
BGR project manager Rebecca Behlz emphasised the importance of protecting groundwater and surface water resources in Jordan, given the scarcity of this vital resource in the Kingdom.
