Authorities detect illegal well in Umm Al Rasas

AMMAN — The Water Ministry's Water Authority of Jordan (WAJ), in cooperation with the Public Security Directorate (PSD), on Tuesday said that it detected an excavator in Southern Shuneh digging an illegal well in addition to 13 cases of water theft from water mains in Umm Al Rasas involving the illegal pumping of "huge" amounts of water. 

WAJ said that its personnel impounded the excavator, closed the illegal well and removed illegal fixtures on the water mains, before transferring the cases to the concerned authorities, according to a ministry statement. 

The authority stressed that the campaign is ongoing across the Kingdom, noting that such thefts constitute the top challenge to the water sector.
