Authorities deny entry of 22,600 tonnes of food items

AMMAN — Agriculture Ministry personnel at border crossings have rejected the entry of 22,600 tonnes of food items from several countries that violate Jordanian standards, the ministry’s assistant secretary general for marketing and information, Salah Tarawneh, said Tuesday.

Most of the items, including around 21,500 tonnes of corn and lemons, were re-exported due to signs of mould. Other items — including ginger, avocadoes, mangoes, pomegranates, cherries, dates and coffee — were destroyed because they did not meet local standards, Tarawneh added.
