Atomic Energy Commission opens Visitors Centre at JRTR

AMMAN — Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission, Khalid Toukan on Thursday inaugurated the Visitors Centre and its facilities at the Jordanian Research and Training Reactor (JRTR). 

During his address, Toukan highlighted the Kingdom’s efforts to advance its nuclear security measures, ensure high human reliability, bolster local capabilities in utilising advanced security analysis tools and develop comprehensive training initiatives. Jordan is dedicated to harnessing cutting-edge nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, Toukan said.

He highlighted the nation’s adherence to safety and security protocols which ensure that any potential risks and damages associated with handling nuclear materials are mitigated.

JRTR Director Majd Hawarri noted that the US Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration contributed $650,000 to assist in the completion of the Visitors Centre and its associated infrastructure, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The participants, including the Foreign Affairs Specialist at the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Office of International Nuclear Security, Emily Manning, head of the Laboratory Team, Stefan Berenz, and Deputy Economic Advisor at the International Office Chris Leslie, emphasised the importance of collaboration and coordination in this arena.
