AMMAN — The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held a reception to celebrate its 52nd anniversary on Thursday, carried out by the ASEAN Committee in Amman (ACA) at the residence of current ACA chair and Ambassador of Brunei Mahadi Maidin.
During the event, Ambassador Mahadi Maidin made welcoming remarks, in which he referenced the close connection of the ASEAN countries to the Hashemite Kingdom.
“I felt that we, ASEAN, and our Jordanian friends would agree that although our countries may be physically far from each other’s shores, we will always remain close to each other’s hearts,” Ambassador Mahadi Maidin said at the event on Thursday.
“These excellent relations attest to a solid foundation with which to enhance more mutually beneficial modes of cooperation between ASEAN and Jordan, and we sincerely look forward to an even closer partnership in the years ahead,” the ambassador said later in his speech.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established on August 8, 1967, this year marking its 52nd anniversary since its inception, when countries in the region declared their commitment to working towards a common goal of partnership for a prosperous and peaceful community of Southeast Asian nations.
Under the 2019 theme, “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability”, Thailand, as the chair of ASEAN, is leading the way with all ten ASEAN member states on working together and building upon past success as well as preparing the Southeast Asian region to overcome new challenges.
Thursday’s event in celebration of the creation of the association honoured Minister of State for Institutional Performance Development Yasera Ghosheh as the guest of honour.
Guests attending the ASEAN Day reception on Thursday were introduced to and served an array of ASEAN cuisines and delicacies prepared by the family members and staff of ASEAN missions in Amman.
