Artefacts found in Jerash during dig for water project

JERASH — A contractor supervising a dig for the Jerash Water Directorate to extend a water pipeline from an area near Souf camp to a nearby town found several artefacts while digging, Jerash Water Director Montaser Momani said Tuesday.

The area is not identified as an archaeological site, but water streams brought the antiques from other places, Jerash Archaeology Director Ahmad Shami said, adding that the relics include a stone block that served as a the base of a carved column, stone remnants from ancient gates and the remnants of a Solomonic column.
