AMMAN — The Southern Military Region thwarted early on Thursday morning an attempt to smuggle narcotics using a drone along its western frontier and within its area of responsibility.
A military source from the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army (JAF) said that “Border Guard units in the Southern Military Region, in cooperation with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle drugs via a drone that tried to cross the border.”
The source said that the drone was detected and tracked, and the rules of engagement were applied accordingly.
The drone was intercepted and brought down within Jordanian territory, and the seized smuggled goods were handed over to the competent authorities.
The source stressed that the JAF remain committed to utilising all available resources and capabilities to prevent narcotics from reaching Jordanian citizens and jeopardising national security.
