‘Army foils infiltration attempt from Syria’

By JT - Aug 09,2016 - Last updated at Aug 09,2016

AMMAN — Border Guards late on Monday foiled an infiltration attempt from Syria into the Kingdom, the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) said.

Frontline troops spotted the vehicle and followed the rules of engagement, destroying the car in the Syrian side of the border and killing those inside, whose number was not identified.

The northern and northeastern border areas have been declared sealed military zones since a terrorist attack targeted a forward post set up to help Syrian refugees, killing seven people.

On Friday, Border Guards foiled an attempt by two foreign nationals to cross from Jordan into a neighbouring country.

Applying the rules of engagement, the troops arrested the two suspects and referred them to the concerned authorities.
Earlier in July, troops on the northeastern border foiled an attempt by four Syrians to smuggle drugs into the Kingdom from Syria.

They arrested the suspects and seized 781,000 Captagon pills and 180 palm-sized sheets of hashish.

Attempts to infiltrate Jordan or cross into Syria have continued even after JAF declared the northern and northeastern borders sealed military zones following a terror attack that killed seven troops.
