AMMAN — The Eastern Military Region command on Tuesday foiled four attempts to smuggle large quantities of narcotics using electronically guided balloons within its area of responsibility.
Border Guard units detected the balloons and, in coordination with security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, intercepted and downed them inside Jordanian territory, according to a Jordan Armed Forces–Arab Army (JAF) statement.
The seized narcotics and equipment were handed over to the relevant authorities for legal action.
Also on Tuesday, the Southern Military Region detected a drone carrying a large quantity of drugs along the western border.
Border Guard forces, supported by military security and the Anti-Narcotics Department, applied the rules of engagement and shot the drone down inside Jordanian territory.
The drone and its cargo were also handed over to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings.
