AMMAN — The Eastern Military Region command on Tuesday foiled an attempt to smuggle a quantity of narcotics into the Kingdom using electronically guided balloons.

In a statement, the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) said the balloons were detected by Border Guard units within the Region’s area of responsibility. Personnel tracked and intercepted the balloons, bringing them down along with their cargo inside Jordanian territory.

The operation was carried out in coordination with the security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, JAF said.

The seized materials were handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
