AMMAN —The Southern Military Zone on Monday thwarted an attempted drug smuggling operation involving two drones within its area of responsibility on its western front.
A military source from the General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces – Arab Army (JAF) said that border guard forces in the Southern Military Zone, in coordination with military security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department, foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics across the border using two unmanned aerial vehicles, according to an army statement.
The source explained that the drones were tracked and subsequently intercepted and downed inside Jordanian territory after the rules of engagement were applied.
The seized materials were handed over to the relevant authorities.
The source affirmed that the JAF will continue to deploy all available capabilities and resources to prevent narcotics from infiltrating the Kingdom and to safeguard national security.
