Area of licensed buildings increases 63.5 per cent in 2021 — DoS

AMMAN — The total area of licensed buildings in the third quarter of 2021 reached 6.292 million square metres, compared with 3.849 million square metres during the same period of 2020, marking a 63.5 per cent increase, the Department of Statistics (DoS) announced on Tuesday.

The department added that the total number of building licences issued in the Kingdom increased 52.3 per cent during the July-September period of 2021 to 19,742 licences. In comparison with the same period of 2020, which saw 12,962 licences, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The area of housing buildings totalled 5.518 million square metres in the third quarter of 2021, registering a spike of 67.4 per cent, compared with 3.297 million square metres in the same period last year, the DoS said.

The DoS stated in its report that the total area of buildings licensed for non-residential purposes increased by 40.2 per cent that amounted to 774,000 square metres in the July-September period of 2021, compared with around 552,000 square metres in the same period last year.

Licensed buildings for housing comprised 87.7 per cent of the total area of licensed buildings, according to the department.

The central region of the Kingdom registered 66.3 per cent of the total area of licensed buildings, while the north recorded 24.1 per cent and the south witnessed 9.6 per cent, according to the DoS.

At a monthly level, data showed that the number of building permits in September reached 2,474, while the area of licensed buildings reached 836,000 square metres, compared with 691,000 square metres during the same month of 2020, registering an increase of 21 per cent.
