AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi said on Monday that the consultative Arab meeting provided an opportunity for "open and candid" discussions on the wide range of challenges facing Arab countries and joint Arab action.
Speaking at the 165th resumed ministerial session of the Council of the League of Arab States, hosted in Amman, Safadi said strengthening joint Arab action is essential to addressing regional challenges, starting with efforts to restore security and stability.
He also highlighted the importance of advancing the implementation of the US–Iran memorandum of understanding on foundations that address all past sources of tension and safeguard Arab states, particularly in the Gulf region, Al Mamlaka TV reported.
He stressed that the Palestinian cause remains the Arab central issue, warning of ongoing risks, including continued humanitarian suffering in the Gaza Strip, illegal Israeli measures aimed at annexing occupied Palestinian territories, expanding settlements, escalating settler violence, and repeated attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Safadi said that these issues require coordinated Arab action to confront them and protect the right of regional peoples to live in security and peace.
He reiterated that lasting peace can only be achieved through the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state along the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side by side with Israel in peace and security.
He also reiterated Jordan’s full solidarity with Lebanon in the face of ongoing Israeli aggression on its territory, stressing the need to uphold the ceasefire and support the Lebanese government in extending its sovereignty over all its territory.
Safadi also said, “We support Syria in its reconstruction process on foundations that preserve its unity and sovereignty and secure the Syrian people’s right to live in safety and peace within a fully sovereign state.”
