AMMAN — Director General of Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management Abdulmajid Qaralleh said on Tuesday that the port administration will not allow the handling of any container vessel carrying hazardous materials on the port’s docks without "highly accurate" security procedures.
At a press conference, Qaralleh said that there are special docks at the Aqaba container terminal for all types of commodities, including dangerous items, noting that the port has "developed" the ability to handle hazardous items, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
In terms of quantities handled at the port, he said that a total of three million tonnes of goods were handled in the first six months of 2022, marking an increase of 750,000 tonnes compared with the corresponding period of last year. The director general noted that the number of docked vessels increased by 14.5 per cent and passenger ships increased by 12 per cent.
