AMMAN — The marina for cruise ships in Aqaba will be operational by the end of next month, Nidal Majali, environment and tourism commissioner at the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) said on Sunday.
He noted that the marina, which will open on January 25, is a significant addition to Aqaba’s tourism services, as the marina is able to receive large cruise ships from abroad.
The move would enhance the ability to receive and handle the increasing numbers of tourists, as the large ships will be received inside a building equipped to provide the highest quality of services, he said.
A total of 96 cruise ships have confirmed their arrival in Aqaba over the next year, he said.
He added that “the number is likely to increase, especially since Aqaba nowadays receives 40 per cent of the world’s cruise ship tourism,” according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
