Annab reaffirms centrality of Palestinian cause

AMMAN — Jordan’s Ambassador to Japan Lina Annab on Friday stressed the centrality of the Palestinian cause for Jordan, holding Israel fully accountable for the exacerbation of tensions following the Israeli bombardment of Gaza.

During a press conference hosted by the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan, Annab commended the Japanese government’s statement that calls for de-escalation and halting the building of illegal settlements in occupied Palestinian territories in violation of international law, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The ambassador referred to His Majesty King Abdullah’s communication with European leaders and his efforts to de-escalate tensions. She said that peace is “the only strategic option for Jordan”.

The only means to realise a just and comprehensive peace is through ending the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, she added.
