AMMAN — The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) on Tuesday thwarted an attempt to smuggle half a million narcotic pills hidden inside a cargo vehicle, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The Public Security Directorate’s spokesperson said that AND personnel received intelligence concerning a number of people attempting to smuggle large quantities of narcotic pills into a neighbouring country.

The suspected cargo vehicle was identified, the spokesperson said, adding that it was tracked until the driver was caught along with his vehicle.

After searching the vehicle, plastic pipes were found hidden in secret caches in the body of the vehicle, and a large amount of Captagon pills, estimated at about half a million pills, was found.

The two other suspects involved in the case were arrested, the spokesperson highlighted, noting that the investigation remains ongoing.
