AND continues crackdown on drug smuggling

AMMAN — The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND)  continued to crackdown on drug trafficking and other contraband over the past few days, as they thwarted smuggling attempts, arrested suspects and seized narcotics.

The Public Security Directorate's (PSD) spokesperson said that the AND agents arrested a suspected drug dealer in the Ramtha district in possession of a large quantity of narcotics found buried in a farm.

In the same region, a joint security and AND team arrested a wanted person on drug charges, who was in possession of large quantities of narcotics, firearms and ammunition.

In Amman, the source said, the AND personnel raided a suspect's house in East Amman, where 13,500 Captagon pills, seven palm-sized hashish sheets, two firearms and ammunition were found.

Meanwhile, AND was notified that two people had promoted and traded narcotics in the southern region of Amman. They were arrested in possession of a large quantity of firearms, Captagon pills, two palm-sized hashish sheets, as well as drugs prepared for sale.

Additionally, at a border crossing, a vehicle coming from a neighbouring country carrying a quantity of narcotics hidden inside a microwave was seized.

The situation was dealt with in cooperation and coordination with Jordan Customs Department (JCD), the official noted, adding that three suspects involved in the case were arrested, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
