AMMAN — The Anti-Narcotic Department (AND) on Tuesday announced the arrest of 16 wanted suspects in connection with three illicit drug cases, including 14 individuals who are allegedly tied to a regional gang, in various parts of the Kingdom in the past few days, according to police.
Law-enforcement officers also seized large amounts of Hashish and cocaine, as well as some weapons allegedly found with the suspects, according to Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi.
One of the major cases, according to Sartawi, involved arresting 14 suspects in Madaba who had alleged ties with a regional gang.
“AND agents monitored the group for weeks and discovered a warehouse where the group was hiding the illicit drugs in Madaba,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.
“The law-enforcement agency officers raided the premises and arrested the 14 suspects without any major incident,” he said.
Officers seized 32 kilogrammes of Hashish, one kilogramme of cocaine and a small quantity of illicit pills, Sartawi added.
Meanwhile, AND agents arrested “one of the most dangerous suspects in Balqa Governorate who is responsible for distributing illicit drugs in his area,” according to Sartawi.
“Officers seized 5.8 kilogrammes of Hashish and four pieces of weapons,” Sartawi maintained.
In a separate case in the Central Badia, the police official stated that AND officers arrested a man who was transporting a large quantity of Hashish.
Officers allegedly found 10 kilogrammes of Hashish in his possession, according to Sartawi.
All suspects were referred to the State Security Court prosecution office for further questioning and indictment, according to a statement by the Public Security Directorate.
