AMMAN — Jordan and Egypt have set up a new roadmap for economic and commercial relations, Egypt’s Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab said at a meeting with Jordanian businessmen and investors on Wednesday.
Mahlab underscored the political will and determination of Amman and Cairo on establishing strong cooperation, noting that it is not a question of competitiveness between the two countries, but a matter of integration.
Referring to the achievements of the Joint Jordanian-Egyptian Higher Committee meetings in Amman earlier in the day, he highlighted decisions to increase cooperation in the aviation and education sectors.
Egypt will provide 100 scholarships for Jordanians to study medicine there, he said.
In addition, it was agreed that Agriculture Minister Akef Zu’bi would visit Cairo to coordinate with his Egyptian counterpart on various agriculture-related issues, according Mahlab.
Tourism cooperation was also among the issues discussed at the meetings, the Egyptian premier said, highlighting the two countries’ interest in bilateral trade in food items and agricultural produce.
Turning to the subject of Egyptian workers in Jordan, Mahlab noted that they are welcomed in Jordan and do not face any problems, adding that the measures taken by the Jordanian government are for registration purposes and to regulate the labour market.
