Al-Ississ, US Treasury secretary highlight economic cooperation

AMMAN — Finance Minister Mohamad Al-Ississ and US Secretary of Treasury Janet Yellen on Wednesday discussed means to enhance cooperation on combatting the financing of terrorism.

Al-Ississ and Yellen, during a phone call that followed a Jordanian delegation’s visit to the US, highlighted the “deep-rooted” relations between the countries and the continuous support of Washington to Amman, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The finance minister acquainted his US counterpart with the top outcomes of the visit and the meetings with various officials from the US administration, Congress, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

He also acquainted the Secretary of Treasury with the top challenges Jordan faces, such as high unemployment rates and the need to “regain momentum to achieve the envisioned growth rates”.

Yellen praised the structural economic reform the government has implemented, mainly during the pandemic’s difficult circumstances, with the aim to enhance the economy’s competitiveness and create jobs in the private sector. 

He also stressed the US government’s support to Jordan.
