AMMAN — The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has officially designated Ajloun Forest Reserve and Yarmouk Forest Reserve as part of its global network of biosphere reserves, bringing Jordan’s total to four.
In a statement shared on its official social media platforms, UNESCO praised Jordan’s efforts to balance biodiversity conservation with sustainable development, calling the designation a “remarkable move for nature, people, and the planet.”
The inclusion of Ajloun and Yarmouk joins the existing Dana and Mujib reserves under the prestigious designation, reinforcing Jordan’s position as a regional leader in environmental protection and resource conservation.
The new status not only recognises Jordan’s environmental achievements but also enhances its international profile as a destination committed to preserving its natural heritage.
