AMMAN — Air defence systems intercepted and shot down eight missiles launched from Iran towards Jordanian territory on Thursday, according to a military source at the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces – Arab Army (JAF).
The source said, in a JAF statement, that the interceptions resulted in the fall of missile debris in several areas but caused no casualties or property damage.
The military source said that JAF is closely monitoring ongoing regional developments and remains at the highest level of operational readiness to protect the Kingdom's airspace, defend its sovereignty, and ensure the safety of its territory.
The statement stressed that the armed forces will not allow any violation of Jordanian airspace by any party.
Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani said that air raid sirens were activated after missiles launched from Iran entered the Kingdom's airspace, adding that the projectiles were all intercepted.
Momani also said that the Public Security Directorate sounded the sirens shortly after the airspace breach, adding that the missiles were successfully intercepted and neutralized.
He also said that the army remains on high alert and are prepared to respond to any threat facing the Kingdom, with efforts focused on protecting national security and ensuring the safety of citizens and residents.
He urged the public to follow instructions issued by the relevant authorities, rely on official sources for information, and refrain from sharing false or misleading reports.
