AMMAN — Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat on Thursday inaugurated a fodder laboratory at the Animal Wealth Directorate building in Amman.

He said that the fodder laboratory was established through an agreement with the Environmental Compensation Fund at a cost of JD700,000, in addition to JD376,000 for veterinary treatments and pesticides, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The Amman-based laboratory and another laboratory based in Aqaba will reduce the time and increase the accuracy of viral, bacterial, mycotoxin and mold tests, ensuring the safety of the imported, exported and local products.

The minister stressed that developing the livestock industry is one of the priorities of the National Plan for Sustainable Agriculture, adding that in 2022 and 2023, the ministry worked to appoint 200 animal production engineers and 60 veterinarians, and employed 150 engineers for a vaccination campaign to vaccinate more than 4 million cattle against foot and mouth disease.

The ministry also awarded a tender for 1.5 million electronic chips for numbering purposes, and established three veterinary hospitals.
