Actor Jamil Awwad passes away

AMMAN — Actor Jamil Awwad passed away on Thursday after a prolonged illness. Culture Minister Haifa Najjar expressed condolences to the Awwad family and his wife, who is also an actor, Joliet Awwad, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Born in 1937, Awwad was a writer, director and an actor who played well-known characters.

After completing his studies in decoration engineering in 1964, Awwad worked as head of the plastic arts department at the Department of Culture and Arts.

He also worked with Jordan TV when it was opened in 1968. After a short stint abroad, he returned to Jordan in 1974 and directed his first play “The Absent”.
