ACC reports 'significant increase’ in exports during Q1 2023

AMMAN — The Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) on Wednesday reported a significant increase in exports of goods and commodities to countries in the Arab region and internationally during the first quarter of this year, with a growth of 44.7 per cent compared with the same period last year.

The chamber's exports during the January-March period of 2023 amounted to approximately JD285 million, compared with around JD197 million during the same period of last year.

The increase in exports was accompanied by a rise in the number of certificates of origin issued by the Chamber during the first quarter of this year, with a growth rate of 21.6 per cent, reaching 6,171 certificates, compared with 5,075 certificates issued during the same period last year.

According to the statistical data, the certificates of origin issued by the Chamber during the first quarter of this year went to many countries, with the most prominent being Saudi Arabia, followed by the UAE, Iraq, Egypt, and Switzerland.

Monthly statistical data released by the Chamber shows that Iraq received the highest value of exports at about JD117 million, followed by Switzerland at roughly JD42 million, the UAE at around JD26 million, Egypt at JD24 million and Saudi Arabia at approximately JD17 million.

During the first quarter of 2023, the chamber's exports were distributed across foreign products (re-exports) at JD142 million, followed by industrial products with a value of JD30 million, agricultural products at around JD25 million and Arab products at about JD29 million.

The chamber issues certificates of origin for Jordanian agricultural and animal products, raw natural resources, re-exported goods and foreign goods purchased from the local market, under specific and defined conditions.
