8 virus-related deaths, 1,276 COVID cases recorded Thursday

AMMAN — Eight COVID-19 deaths and 1,276 coronavirus cases, including 1,274 local infections, were recorded on Thursday, increasing the caseload to 13,101, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 69.

The local cases comprised 538 infections in Amman, 534 in Zarqa, 119 in Balqa, 24 in Irbid, including a case in Ramtha, in addition to 23 in Jerash, 11 in Madaba, three in Karak, seven in Mafraq, five in Aqaba, five in Maan and five in Ajloun, according to a joint statement by the Prime Ministry and the Health Ministry.

Also on Thursday, two cases from abroad were registered among individuals returning to the Kingdom. 

Meanwhile, 126 recoveries were registered on Thursday, including 19 from Prince Hamzah Hospital, 91 from the Dead Sea isolation sites and 16 from accredited private hospitals, the statement added.

Amid the growing number of local infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by defence orders and adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.

The ministry also highlighted the “Aman” (Safety) application for smartphones, which alerts users if they come into contact with a COVID-19 positive person, as well as “Sahtak” (your health) application, which provides users with the latest information and news related to COVID-19, in addition to guidelines and warnings pertaining to the Kingdom’s epidemiological situation.
