AMMAN — A joint campaign was conducted by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the Public Security Directorate (PSD) in which eight illegal wells were detected in Zarqa, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The wells were used to illegally supply farms and large ponds with water. In a statement released on Thursday, the ministry reported that hundreds of thousands of cubic metres of groundwater had been extracted annually. The wells were dismantled and the necessary legal documentation was prepared. The ministry urged the public to report any witnessed violations.
