7 COVID deaths, 480 virus cases recorded Saturday

AMMAN — Seven COVID-19 deaths and 480 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Saturday, increasing the caseload to 735,139.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 9,443, according to a government statement.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 2.96 per cent, compared with 2.86 per cent reported on Friday.

A total of 16,196 virus tests were also conducted on Saturday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 7,245,152, according to the statement.

The statement added that 809 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Saturday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 713,902.

The statement added that there are currently 11,794 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 94 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Saturday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 611, the statement said, adding that 39 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 10 per cent, ICU beds reached 26 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 15 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 15 per cent, 22 per cent ICUs and 9 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of eight per cent, eight per cent for ICUs and 6 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 172 infections in Amman, 101 in Zarqa, 83 in Irbid, including seven cases in Ramtha District, 34 in Karak, 27 in Tafileh, 18 in Mafraq, 15 in Balqa, 12 Maan, out of which five in Petra district, 12 in Aqaba, three in Ajloun, three in Jerash, while no cases were reported in Madaba.
