AMMAN — A total of 683 earthquakes were recorded during the January-July period by the Jordan Seismological Observatory (JSO), which operates under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. JSO Director Ghassan Sweidan on Monday revealed that there were 173 earthquakes within the Kingdom's borders, 301 earthquakes in neighbouring regions, and 210 earthquakes that occurred in various places such as Indonesia and New Zealand. The recorded seismic activity varied in intensity, with magnitudes ranging from 1.3 to 4.5 on the Richter scale for those within the Kingdom, he noted, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. As one of the most advanced observatories in the region, it boasts 23 seismic monitoring stations strategically placed across the Kingdom, providing data and insights for specialist engineers and researchers. He also emphasised JSO's commitment to spreading earthquake awareness through scientific and educational lectures to relevant institutions.
