68 COVID deaths, 2,507 infections recorded on Sunday

AMMAN — Sixty-eight COVID-19 deaths and 2,507 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 685,973, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 8,246, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 14.05 per cent, compared with 14.02 per cent reported on Saturday.

A total of 17,846 virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 6,477,564, according to the statement.

The statement added that 6,537 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Sunday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 638,481.

The statement added that there are currently 39,246 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 229 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 2,197, the statement said, adding that 224 recovered patients left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 37 per cent, ICU beds reached 61 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 39 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 41 per cent, 57 per cent for ICUs and 32 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 25 per cent, 38 per cent for ICUs and 24 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 656 infections in Amman, 477 in Irbid, including 16 in Ramtha District, 92 in Balqa, 142 in Karak, 127 in Jerash, 313 in Zarqa, 131 in Aqaba, 79 in Madaba, 156 in Mafraq, 155 in Ajloun, 155 in Tafileh and 24 in Maan.
