AMMAN — The Public Security Department (PSD) has detained 64,483 wanted people, returned 3,853 stolen cars to their owners and seized around 4,000 guns since May last year, PSD Director Gen. Tawfiq Tawalbeh said Tuesday.
Tawalbeh made the remarks at a meeting held by Interior Minister Hussein Majali in the presence of HRH Prince Rashed, head of the Special Police Unit, with heads of security agencies to discuss issues facing the Kingdom.
The meeting discussed ways to combat extremism and the illegal use and trade of guns; traffic safety; internal and external security challenges within the difficult regional circumstances; and means to increase coordination between security agencies and administrative rulers.
Noting that cooperation is the basic foundation to achieve security and stability, and fight all forms of crime, Majali said security agencies have been complementing each other in working to combat crime.
He added that Royal directives always focus on fighting extremism with convincing arguments and dialogue from one side, and bolstering the sovereignty of the country and the rule of law, on the other, to ensure the sustainable security of the country and its people.
Ensuring security needs the collaboration of both security entities and the public, Majali said, noting that citizens are key partners.
Civil Defence Department Director Lt. Gen. Talal Kofahi said the meeting was an opportunity to exchange ideas and increase cooperation.
Gendarmerie Department Director General Maj. Gen. Ahmad Sweilmin said the department has achieved great successes in implementing its security plans.
