52 COVID deaths, 4,519 infections recorded Sunday

Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll stands at 1,233

AMMAN — Fifty-two COVID-19 deaths and 4,519 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Sunday, increasing the caseload to 109,321, the government announced.

The reported fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 1,233, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The local cases comprised 2,317 infections in Amman, 828 in Zarqa, 439 in Irbid, including 147 in Ramtha district, 113 in Maan, including 37 in Petra district, 177 in Aqaba, five in Ajloun, 72 in Madaba, 133 in Balqa, 203 in Karak, 126 in Mafraq, 79 in Jerash, and 27 in Tafileh.

A total of 230 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Sunday, increasing the number of cases receiving treatment in hospitals to 1,959, of which 378 patients were in ICUs, the statement said.

The statement also added that 179 recovered patients left hospitals.

A total of 23,056 virus tests were also conducted on Sunday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered to 2,040,687.

The percentage of positive tests for Sunday stood at 19.6 per cent, the statement added.

Amid the growing number of local infections, the Ministry of Health has renewed its call on the public to abide by defence orders, as well as to adhere to precautionary measures, mainly wearing face masks and avoiding holding gatherings that exceed 20 people.

The ministry also highlighted the “Aman” (Safety) application for smartphones, which alerts users if they come into contact with a COVID-19 positive person, as well as “Sahtak” (your health) application, which provides users with the latest information and news related to COVID-19, in addition to guidelines and warnings pertaining to the Kingdom’s epidemiological situation.
