AJLOUN — The “model” partnership between the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) and Kufranjah District has resulted in the inauguration of a Princess Basma Centre for Human Development in the area.
The new facility, opened by HRH Princess Basma in the presence of JOHUD Executive Director Farah Daghistani on Monday, is the 51st in the network of Princess Basma centres across Jordan.
The centre will bring sustainable development to the area by empowering women and young people, providing training opportunities to enable them to join the labour market and develop local communities.
A knowledge station affiliated with Kufranjah Municipality is hosted by the centre, whose location was chosen because the district is far away from Wahadneh, where another Princess Basma development centre is located.
Area residents called for the establishment of the new facility due to the difficulty of travelling the distance to the Wahadneh centre.
“This partnership is a source of pride for the fund. We are looking forward to spreading it in all areas of the Kingdom to establish new centres,” the princess said.
Addressing the local community, she urged the district’s young residents to depend on themselves and unleash their creative powers to alleviate poverty and unemployment.
With an estimated population of 60,000, Kufranjah has an 18.9 per cent poverty rate and a 20 per cent unemployment rate, standing at 25 per cent among women.
The Princess Basma centre will launch development projects that benefit the local community and prepare a database on the area, identifying the priorities and needs of the municipality.
In addition, it will target young people through the recruitment office and ensure they access training opportunities in cooperation with private companies.
Kufranjah Mayor Fawaz Freihat said the centre will fuel the innovation of women and young people.
