50 COVID deaths, 4,085 infections recorded Wednesday

AMMAN — A total of 50 COVID-19 deaths and 4,085 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Wednesday, increasing the caseload to 676,175, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom’s coronavirus death toll to 7,987, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and the Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as positive rate, stood at nearly 12.65 per cent, compared with 11.71 per cent reported on Tuesday.

A total of 32,296 virus tests were also conducted on Wednesday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 6,404,559, according to the statement.

The statement added that 6,482 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Wednesday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 617,096.

The statement added that there are currently 51,092 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 40 per cent, ICU beds reached 68 per cent, while occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 44 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 47 per cent, 61 per cent for ICUs and 34 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation beds occupancy rate of 23 per cent, 36 per cent for ICUs and 24 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 1,647 infections in Amman, 669 in Irbid, including 131 in Ramtha District, 201 in Balqa, 473 in Zarqa, 132 in Madaba, 97 in Aqaba, 327 in Mafraq, 124 in Jerash, 100 in Ajloun, 159 in Karak, 112 in Tafileh and 44 in Maan, including six cases in Petra District.
