AMMAN — Five coronavirus patients are in critical condition in Prince Hamzah Hospital, with three of them suffering from kidney failure, the hospital’s director Abdul Razzaq Al Khashman said Saturday.
The three patients aged 34, 40 and 50, did not have preexisting conditions or medical records, but they began to show severe complications, including acute pneumonia and kidney failure and have to undergo dialysis, Khashman told the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
The rapid deterioration of relatively healthy and young patients is a "dangerous indicator", Khashman said, indicating that the number of severe cases is expected to surge in the next few hours and days, according to Petra.
He called on the public “not to question the existence or seriousness of the coronavirus”, and to adhere to safety precautions, including physical distancing, avoiding gatherings, washing hands, wearing masks and using sterilisers.
Prince Hamzah Hospital has been designated to treat patients tested positive for the coronavirus since the outbreak of the pandemic.
