37 rare documents from Ottoman era restored for digital preservation

AMMAN — The Royal Hashemite Documentation Centre (RHDC) on Tuesday completed the restoration of the first batch of rare documents stored at the Civil Service Bureau (CSB). The process included disinfection, thermal pressing and chemical treatment on 37 documents in accordance with international standards, prior to uploading them for digital preservation, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The restored documents cover the period of the Ottoman Empire and the Emirate of Transjordan, dating the documents back 100 years.

A statement by the RHDC said that the joint cooperation with the CSB to restore and preserve historical documents aims at enhancing the Jordanian "national memory". The RHDC, established upon a Royal Decree in 2005 under the supervision of HRH Prince Ali Bin Naif, works to collect documents about Jordan and its leadership, organisations, Royal family and manuscripts of all types, Petra reported.
