24th Japanese Language Speech winners honoured

AMMAN – The Japanese embassy, in cooperation with the University of Jordan (UJ), on Monday hosted the 24th Japanese Language Speech Contest.

Japan’s Ambassador to Jordan Okuyama Jiro, Senior Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Jordan, Kawatani Nobuhiro and the Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages at UJ, Nahed Suleiman Emaish, as well as Jordanian and Japanese guests, attended the event, according to an embassy statement.

The contest aims to provide Jordanian students studying the Japanese language with a valuable opportunity to showcase their learning achievements, in addition to introducing aspects of Japanese culture to the audience.

The ceremony also featured a performance of Koto, a Japanese musical instrument.

The contest was divided into two sessions. In the first session, each contestant has the opportunity to give a presentation about their favourite Japanese song.

Reina Habaibeh was awarded first prize and Ayah Alsadawi won second prize.

In the second session, the participants presented their favourite Japanese proverb.

Mohammad Alqirem and Safiya Alsharif won first and second places, respectively. Alaa Tariq was awarded a prize from JICA, Rawan Naoush was awarded a prize from the Japanese Community Association in Jordan and Rakan Al Hunaiti was awarded a prize from the Japanese ambassador.
