AMMAN — The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply on Tuesday reported a 21 per cent decrease in the number of violations recorded in the first six months of the year.
The ministry's data also showed a 43 per cent drop in the number of complaints received, with 806 complaints filed in the first six months of this year, compared with 1,408 in the same period last year, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Ministry Spokesperson Yanal Barmawi attributed the decline in violations to a concerted effort to educate and guide the commercial sector and service providers, adding that compliance with the Industry and Trade Law, inspection campaigns, and stricter financial penalties have also contributed to the improved statistics.
In the first six months of the year, the ministry conducted 2,869 rounds of inspections, showing a decrease from the 3,833 tours conducted in the same period in 2023. These inspections included visits to 46,591 establishments, compared with 57,174 visits last year.
Barmawi also explained that each inspection round consists of several market inspectors, who together visit a large number of commercial establishments within the allotted time frame for each round.
