‘2,000 illegal guest workers detained so far in 2014’

AMMAN — The Ministry of Labour has detained 2,000 guest workers of various nationalities over Labour Law violations since the beginning of 2014, according to the director of the ministry’s inspection unit, Ayman Khawaldeh.
The ministry has decided to deport 500 guest workers for failing to renew their expired work permits, Khawaldeh said, adding that deportation decisions are issued against 100 to 150 guest workers on a daily basis.
The ministry has posted on its website the names of guest workers with expired work permits, with their number amounting to 270,000 for the years 2011-13.
