AMMAN — The Criminal Court prosecutor on Sunday charged two sisters with premeditated murder in connection with the stabbing death of their older brother at their home in Aqaba on Saturday, official sources said.

The two suspects, aged 24 and 22, reportedly stabbed their brother multiple times with a kitchen knife as he walked into the house at night, senior official sources said.

The two sisters then headed to the nearest police station with the knives and turned themselves in, Police Spokesperson Lt. Col. Amer Sartawi said.

“The two sisters confessed to murdering their 26-year-old brother over constant family disputes,” Sartawi told The Jordan Times.

A senior judicial source told The Jordan Times that the two women stated in their initial testimony that “they decided to murder their brother because he would often cause them problems”.

“The two sisters claimed that their brother would curse at them and their family and was violent with everyone, so they decided to kill him,” the senior judicial source said.

On Saturday night, the senior judicial source maintained, “the two sisters armed themselves with kitchen knives and waited for their brother to enter the house”.

“The minute he walked in, they attacked him with the knives and stabbed him repeatedly. He had no chance of defending himself,” according to the senior judicial source.

When they made sure he was dead, the senior judicial source maintained, “they headed to a nearby police station and turned themselves in”.

The Criminal Court prosecutor ordered that the body be transferred to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsy, according to Sartawi.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family members are expected to be summoned by the Criminal Court prosecutor for questioning, according to the senior judicial source.

The Criminal Court prosecutor ordered that the two women be detained at a women’s correctional and rehabilitation centre for 15 days pending further investigation, the senior judicial source said.
