AMMAN — Two Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers were shot during a raid to arrest a wanted man on Wednesday, according to a Public Security Department (PSD) statement.

The PSD said that the CID personnel carried out the raid on the house of the suspect, who was wanted for an armed robbery, in the Jabal Al Taj neighbourhood of Amman early on Wednesday morning.

The suspect allegedly shot at the officers, injuring two of them, according to the statement.

The two officers are reported to be in fair conditions and are still undergoing treatment.

Following the rules of engagement, the officers returned fire, shooting the suspect in the foot, the statement read, adding that the suspect was then arrested.

The case unfolded after the southern Amman CID office received a tip-off indicating that three Arab nationals were robbed at gunpoint by three people who forcibly entered their house, stealing their vehicle and then fleeing, the statement continued.

A special investigation team was formed by the CID to follow up on the case. Investigators identified one of the three suspects, who had a criminal record. Subsequently a search was initiated, locating one suspect inside a vehicle in the Shmeisani area in possession of a firearm, where he was arrested.

The PSD added that as a result of the investigation with the arrested man, the second suspect involved in the case was identified, who was listed as "one of the most dangerous wanted persons" in drug trafficking cases, among others. He was then located at his home in Jabal Al Taj area.

A pistol, a quantity of live ammunition and three passports belonging to the suspects were found inside the house of the wanted person, while investigations are ongoing in the case, according to the statement.
