AMMAN — There are around 14,000 heads of camel in the Kingdom, the majority of which are concentrated in the south, Agriculture Ministry Spokesperson Nimer Haddadin said on Monday in a statement e-mailed to The Jordan Times.
He added that the ministry is currently identifying the location of camel herds in Jordan in order to provide them with veterinary services and send mobile vet clinics.
Haddadin noted that the camels are mainly found in the governorates of Maan, 220km south of Amman, Zarqa, 22km east of the capital, and Balqa, 35km northwest of Amman.
He said the number of camels in Jordan dropped over the past few years due to lack of fodder, in addition to the absence of local markets that sell camel products, mainly milk.
