AMMAN — ASEZA and UNDP Jordan, and the Royal Jordanian Navy partnership advances reef conservation under the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR) initiative, through completing training of 14 Jordanian Royal Navy divers in Aqaba.
The five-day Reef-Check Eco Diver training was conducted in August at the Aqaba Marine Reserve, and aimed to strengthen coral reef monitoring and conservation efforts, under the supervision of Reef Check International experts.
The training is a "milestone" for Jordan’s marine conservation, combining classroom lessons with three full days of diving, equipping participants with "internationally recognised" skills in reef monitoring, buoyancy control, underwater communication, and scientific data collection methods.
The programme also underscores Jordan’s commitment to preserving its unique marine biodiversity, according to ASZEA statement.
Commissioner for Environment and Public Safety at ASEZA Nedal Ouran, said "This training represents a significant step forward in building the capacities of Jordan’s national teams."
These joint efforts reflect Jordan’s commitment to sustainability and ensure that the marine environment remains a renewable treasure for future generations, according to Ouran.
He added "By applying globally recognised monitoring standards, participants enhance the resilience of coral reefs against climate change and human pressures".
By training a cadre of environmental divers, Jordan strengthens its frontline marine conservation efforts.
The newly trained divers will contribute critical data to national, regional and international conservation initiatives, supporting policies and long-term sustainability of coral reef ecosystems, according to ASEZA statement.
