120 sheep die in Busaira districtdue to parasite infection

AMMAN — Test result reports showed that the death of 120 sheep in Busaira district is due to liver and blood parasites, head of the district’s agriculture department, Bilal Al Haloul, confirmed on Tuesday.

Haloul said that field inspection revealed that the herd’s waterers were used by dogs, which “caused the sheep to be infected with canine cysts and resulted in malnutrition”, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The results showed that the sheep suffered from severe emaciation, lack of wool and yellowing of the eyes. The farmer who owns the herd said that 120 head of sheep out of 500 died, calling for providing the district’s veterinary clinic with technical and field staffs to ensure appropriate services, notably treatment and vaccines, as well as a veterinary labs.
