120 farmers affected by severe storm in 2019 receive loans totalling JD1m

AMMAN — Director General of the Agricultural Credit Corporation (ACC) Mohammad Hyari on Monday said that the ACC has completed the first stage of reviewing requests submitted by Jordan Valley farmers affected by a windstorm that swept the valley in March 2019.

More than 120 affected farmers have benefitted from loans exceeding a total of JD1 million, Hyari said in a statement. The ACC incurred the value of interest for these loans after the Central Bank of Jordan allocated JD10 million to secure liquid assets for farmers. Hyari noted that the ACC has continued to grant loans to farmers during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In the wake of the “unprecedented” storm last March, specialised committees were formed at the Ministry of Agriculture to assess the damages incurred by farmers, Hyari said, adding that the ministry coordinated with the ACC to rehabilitate the damaged projects so that Jordanian farmers can resume agricultural production.
