12 suspects arrested in nationwide drug raids

AMMAN — Anti-Narcotics Department personnel handled seven instances of drug crime in Aqaba, Irbid, Amman, Ramtha and Mafraq over the past several days, leading to the arrest of 12 suspected drug dealers and traffickers and the seizure of an unspecified amount of drugs and several firearms. 

The Public Security Directorate's spokesperson on Sunday revealed that in Aqaba, two cases led to the arrest of a suspected drug dealer found in possession of 30,000 narcotic pills. Additionally, two suspected distributors were apprehended in possession of 11 palm-sized sheets of hashish.

In Ramtha, a raid led to the arrest of three Arab nationals allegedly involved in drug trafficking. The three were found to be in possession of 76 palm-sized sheets of hashish and 7,000 narcotic pills, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. 

In Irbid, a suspected drug distributor and two accomplices were arrested during a raid on the suspected distributor’s residence. Authorities seized 2kg of crystal meth, 250gm of cocaine and a firearm during the raid.

Police also handled two cases in Mafraq and the Northern Badia region. The first involved the arrest of an Arab national who was allegedly found in possession of 1,000 narcotic pills. In the second case, three automatic firearms and an unspecified quantity of narcotic pills were confiscated from the possession of another suspected distributor upon his arrest.

In Amman, an anti-narcotics operation led to the arrest of a suspected drug distributor, and the seizure of 14 palm-sized sheets of hashish.

With the support of gendarmerie forces and the Zarqa Police Directorate, a comprehensive security campaign was conducted in Zarqa to apprehend individuals involved in drug-related crimes, which resulted in the arrest of 20 individuals.
