AMMAN — More than 1,100 foreign tourists visited the Petra archaeological city on Wednesday, which is the highest number since the beginning of 2022, according to figures from the Petra Visitor Centre.
The Petra Development and Tourism Regional Authority (PDTRA) said that the increase came in conjunction with applying the government’s procedures to ease COVID restrictions and a sign of the start of the recovery of tourist activities in the city, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
PDTRA Chief Commissioner Suleiman Farajat said that this increase brings hope to restore tourist activities in the city, which has suffered greatly over the past two years as a result of the pandemic’s repercussions.
